Veg boxes in Summer.

Last years veg boxes from June-August contained: new potatoes, Jersey Royal potatoes, rocket, Little Gem lettuces, rhubarb, mushrooms, mixed salad leaves, cucumbers, courgettes, spring onions, Broad beans, garlic, carrots, beetroots, lettuces, onions, tomatoes, fennel, chard,  radishes, broccoli, cabbages, celery, chillies, mange tout and coriander, kale, Purple Sprouting Broccoli, Rapini and French beans.

There were a minimum of five, and up to ten crops in each box.

From mid July onwards all crops were sourced locally, and most of them were grown by Reddy Lane. We grew the mixed salad leaves, tomatoes, French beans, chard, chillies, courgettes, mange tout, lettuces, cucumbers, garlic, Broad beans and the rocket.

The other local growers I source from during the Summer include Glebelands City Growers in Sale and Abbey Leys Farm in Cheshire. Glebelands have a central location in Sale, and grow fantastic crops like herbs and salad. If you’ve shopped in Unicorn, you will have had their salad. They also did tomatoes, beans, cucumbers and chard this year. And a new one on me Rapini, which is a brassica crop, that you wilt like spinach.
